I have written this book to help us recall the original dream for education, the vision of those who built the sandstone schools and those who taught in one room buildings for the sake of education. If we are a rich province, and we are, our schools should feel it. Our kids deserve the best we can give them and not to be shelved as a low budget item. But maybe, knowing that, we would be wiser to not just ask the government or the public to find schools' better'. The secret of return to respect might be hidden in what the lady told me- we in the schools should show others what we need and where we 'd like to do more, specifically....

Dear Madhu Ji, On my way back home I recapitulated, as my routine exercise, the discussions at the Coffee House. Can you recall the reaction of Mr Malik to Lal's outburst against the final outcome of Dhananjay Chakrovarty's legal battle to ward off the Capital punishment pronounced on him for rape and murder of a minor girl, when he himself was just 21 years? ……………..." I suppose Mr. Malik came out with some amusing retort, which made almost the entire group at the table giggle and I could not make out anything but only observe Mr. Malik move towards the toilets. Respected Sir, I clearly heard your `Guruji`, I mean Mr Malik, murmur aloud, “Is there any punishment available to your civilized society to punish an errant woman who voluntarily and actively seduces and commits rape on an innocent, uninitiated and in the prime of his youth?” “Do you mean a rape amongst a Lesbian fraternity?” Mr. Lal Singh speaks out smilingly. Mr. Malik simply hung his head down and spoke in his normal pitch, “I mean, on a companion belonging to the opposite sex.” Having uttered these words Guruji peacefully got up and moved in a gentle pace towards pu...

Book of Business - free eBook Edition by William McGrane It's the summer of 1994, and Gus Bondoc is going under. One of the best civil-defense lawyers in San Francisco, he's survived by sheer cunning and strict control. But when everything goes wrong at once - when a jury hits his biggest client with a $12 million penalty just after an entry-level employee helps a foreign government wrest $16 million from the most dangerous man he's ever worked for and then sets out to seduce him - Bondoc falls back on his worst instincts and the wrong people. With his business and his life at risk, with plenty of enemies and few friends, he begins the grim process of preserving himself at all costs. A raw portrait of the dark side of high-stakes civil-law practice, Book of Business is a frightening look at a shadowy world that many imagine but only true insiders ever see. Praise for Book of Business "Compulsively readable." Ephraim Margolin, Esq., Past President of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers; Recipient, State Bar of California Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame Awards 2004. "Book of Business is a unique, no-holds-barred, ins...
One of the United States’ greatest military advantages is rapid global mobility. The Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) provides a crucial supplement to the military’s mobility resources in time of war or national emergency. The proliferation of man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS), however, poses a growing threat to the CRAF and its critical airlift capacity. In this study, Lt Col Glen Downing describes the US government’s historical and potential future uses of the CRAF during contingency operations. He examines current CRAF policies, the operating environment, and the MANPAD threat, describing the negative consequences of the shoot down of a CRAF airliner. Positing several options to counter the threat, he analyzes each following the parameters of unit cost, operating cost, funding sources, insurability, and crew training. The study concludes with a thoughtful recommendation to the Department of Defense on a course of action to confront the MANPADS threat to the CRAF....
In the 1890s, a proofreader at the University of Chicago Press prepared a single sheet of typographic fundamentals intended as a guide for the University community. That sheet grew into a pamphlet, and the pamphlet grew into a book--the first edition of the Manual of Style, published in 1906. Now in its fifteenth edition, The Chicago Manual of Style--the essential reference for authors, editors, proofreaders, indexers, copywriters, designers, and publishers in any field--is more comprehensive and easier to use than ever before. Those who work with words know how dramatically publishing has changed in the past decade, with technology now informing and influencing every stage of the writing and publishing process. In creating the fifteenth edition of the Manual, Chicago's renowned editorial staff drew on direct experience of these changes, as well as on the recommendations of the Manual's first advisory board, composed of a distinguished group of scholars, authors, and professionals....
Facsimile of the 1st Edition: Manual of Style The history of The Chicago Manual of Style spans more than one hundred years, beginning in 1891 when the University of Chicago Press first opened its doors. At that time, the Press had its own composing room with experienced typesetters who were required to set complex scientific material as well as work in such then-exotic fonts as Hebrew and Ethiopic. Professors brought their handwritten manuscripts directly to the compositors, who did their best to decipher them. The compositors then passed the proofs to the “brainery”—the proofreaders who corrected typographical errors and edited for stylistic inconsistencies. To bring a common set of rules to the process, the staff of the composing room drew up a style sheet, which was then passed on to the rest of the university community. Even at such an early stage, “the University Press style book and style sheet” was considered important enough to be preserved, along with other items from the Press’s early years, in the cornerstone of the new Press building in 1903. That sheet grew into a pamphlet, and by 1906 the pamphlet had become a bo...

The material on these pages was compiled over many years and is the result of one person’s desire to figure out whether there is anything in our actions that must be ‘absolute’ or if all concepts of everything really are relative, based entirely on each person’s individual beliefs. A uniquely different kind of ‘trip’ took place after the compiler of this ‘stuff’ had a very heated argument with someone else when one of them yelled, “...well, your truth isn’t my truth!” What an amazing ‘trip’ it was......

Summary of detailed findings from research on the history of fishing practices and marine fisheries of the Hawaiian islands compiled from: native Hawaiian traditions, historical accounts, government communications, kama?aina testimony and ethnography...
In a traditional Hawaiian context, nature and culture are one and the same, there is no division between the two. The wealth and limitations of the land and ocean resources gave birth to, and shaped the Hawaiian world view. The ?aina (land), wai (water), kai (ocean), and lewa (sky) were the foundation of life and the source of the spiritual relationship between people and their environs. Every aspect of life, whether in the sky, on land, or of the waters was believed to have been the physical body-forms assumed by the creative forces of nature, and the greater and lesser gods and goddesses of the Hawaiian people. Respect and care for nature, in turn meant that nature would care for the people. Thus, Hawaiian culture, for the most part, evolved in a healthy relationship with the nature around it, and until the arrival of foreigners on Hawaiian shores, the health and well-being of the people was reflected in the health of nature around them. Today, whether looking to the sea and fisheries, or to the flat lands and mountains, or to the condition of the people, it is all too easy to find signs of stress and diminishing health of H...

This fiction novel introduces the manner of deception used to bypass the U.S. Constitution's express limitations on the scope of government. Since this is a rather large topic, this novel limits its scope to deal with money, showing how legal tender paper currencies were cleverly instituted in 1862 and gold was 'confiscated' in 1933. For a thorough, non-fiction look at the same topic, please see Monetary Laws, Volumes I & II; by the same author....
Mark’s greatest insights came from his great-grandfather’s monetary papers which relayed one conversation with Floyd Johnson. Floyd had brought up that the federal government seemed to be growing immensely powerful, not by amendment as was the express means provided by Article V of the Constitution for changing federal power, but merely somehow. Mark Adamson noted that the Tenth Amendment very clearly established the ‘rule’ of American government, that with ratification of the Constitution, government power became divided into federal and State jurisdictions. Mark Adamson likened this 10th Amendment principle to a pie, with the small sliver of federal authority delegated to the federal government as outlined by the Constitution, with the States retaining the remainder of the government power pie as reserved powers. Floyd stated he agreed only in principle. He stated that in practice the federal government now all but consumed the mostly insignificant State government authorities, with States being now forced to tow the federal line. Floyd therefore argued for a pie in which the small sliver went to the State governments, wher...

She provides a fresh look at the criminal/terrorist nexus and by examining corporate trends, provides unique insights into funding aspects of both activities. This important subject matter is ripe for further policy and substantive analytical focus. Analysts and policy makers alike can certainly use her study’s conclusions and recommendations in their efforts to protect our nation against this vexing threat....

One common attribute we all share as humans is the fact that whenever there is an important future event, we always make necessary preparations in anticipation of an outcome from the event. We do this with childbirth, graduation from school, marriage, vacation, and death. But when it comes to the second visit of Jesus Christ leading to the End of the Age, we seem to care less about the need for some serious preparations. Before death, we will all come to a point in life when we subconsciously without notice start to briefly analyze our path; where we came from, where we are, and where we honestly think we are going after death. After this unprecedented brief moment, our next step is largely determined by the analysis obtained from the pause. That you accepted Jesus Christ as the son of God is not enough to save you from hell; you must repent and live by God’s law to enter His Paradise in Heaven. Anybody can believe in Jesus Christ; but not everybody can live for Jesus Christ. God made you for a specific unique supernatural divine purpose beyond your imaginable dreams. This book will guide you, restore you, energize you, and move you...
The opening statement in the Holy Bible talks about two different worlds; it unveils the heavens and the earth.“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1. One remarkable feature that sets heaven apart from the earth is the fact that while everything about heaven is supernatural, the earth on the other hand is strictly natural. This spiritual demarcation was established in fulfillment of God’s law of divine number 2. The law states that members of a pair must be the exact opposites of each other. The Book of Revelation talks about the battle of the End of the Age which will take place during the second visit of Jesus Christ. We know that Satan will wage war against God’s kingdom. As Christians, every time we read the Book of Revelation, we immediately assume that this looming battle will be the first of its kind in human history....

The Bakersfield Californian objected to the barren site, and also to the twisting path from town - there were nearer and better camping places. Besides, it wrote, the “hot bend in the river" was no place to spend $20,000 of tax money. The Californian rallied the public to oppose the purchase, but the rival Bakersfield Morning Echo considered the old Barker property a fine place for a public park....
Park visitors were a diverse group. In May 1929, in late night and early morning hours, mixed-sex, nude bathing parties had been observed at the reservoir. Hart was incensed. He had labored to create a beautiful park for everyone, but he was prepared to protect it against criticism. He warned, "You can't quote me too strongly on this matter, I am going to have three deputy sheriffs on the lookout at the Kern River park, and if anyone, man or woman, is caught bathing in the lake at that time of the day or night without a bathing suit, he or she will be arrested. I don't care who these mixed couples are. I have given instructions they will be taken immediately and locked up in the county jail to await the due course of the law."...

This essay is a common sense approach to the issue of economic monopolies, written for the general reader with no knowledge of economics. I clearly explain why monopolies are always the result of government regulation and not as socialists claim the result of the free market. I have postgraduate studies in economics, but I am not a specialist on the subject, and this essay represents the knowledge I gathered in an attempt to answer my own questions. English is not my first language and you should be ready to excuse my syntax....

It is a fascinating book, filled with many recollections of her own life and her interactions with the Lincolns and other members of the government elite. (summary by Guero)...
