Kampala Hilton Hotel is a hotel, under construction, in Kampala, Uganda's capital city.

The hotel is located on Nakasero Hill Road in Nakasero, Kampala's most prestigious location. The building is being erected on a 14 acres (5.7 ha) site that was previously occupied by the state's television stations. The elevation of the construction site is approximately 1,240 metres (4,070 ft) above sea level, making it one of the highest points in the city.[3]

Aya Investments Limited, a subsidiary of the Aya Group, have been working on the 24-story building that was initially scheduled to open in 2007.[4] As a result of cash shortages and administrative difficulties the hotel remains uncompleted, as of July 2013. When completed, it will be the second-tallest building in the city, behind the Kampala Intercontinental Hotel, which is also under construction.[5]

The developers claim that together with the Kampala Serena Hotel, and the Kampala Intercontinental Hotel, the Kampala Hilton will be one of the three 5-star hotels in Uganda despite the fact that the Kampala Hilton's room sizes are those which apply to a three star property. As of February 2011, the Hilton hotel chain had twenty-five operational properties in Africa, with another fifteen still in development.[6][7] In November 2011, the Bujumbura Doubletree Hotel became the 41st African property and the 16th under development.[8]

Construction costs

As of April 2012, the total construction bill for the property is estimated at about US$150 million (UGX:350 billion), according to the Aya Group Chairman, Mohammed Hamid.[9] In September 2012, Ugandan print media indicated that the hotel is expected to be ready in March 2013.[10]
