This is a listing of countries with Burger King franchises, followed by countries which formerly had one and countries without one. Burger King has a longstanding presence at U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force installations worldwide, dating back to the 1980s under a contract with Army and Air Force Exchange Service. Today, while other chains such as Taco Bell, Popeyes, and Subway have a presence on military bases, virtually every major Army and Air Force installation hosts a BK restaurant.

Asia

Hong Kong

Burger King Hong Kong is wholly owned by North Asia Strategic, who obtained exclusive right to operate from BK AsiaPac Pte Limited.[6][7]

The first store was opened on 29 December 2007 in the Sun Arcade, Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.[7]

There are currently 15 stores in Hong Kong.[8] There are 5 stores in Hong Kong Island, located in Central, Wanchai, Causeway Bay and Fortress Hill. In Kowloon, there are 5 stores currently in operation, located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hung Hom, Mongkok, Wong Tai Sin and Tsz Wan Shan.

Japan

Burger King originally entered Japan in 1993, but due to high competition it withdrew from Japanese market in 2001.[9]

However, Burger King reentered Japanese market with an opening of the first store in Shinjuku, Tokyo in November, 2006.[10] There are currently 41 stores opened in Japan.[11]




Burger King's entrance into the Asian marketplace took place in late-1970 first in Hong Kong. In 1982 with franchisees opening stores in several East Asian countries, including Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea.[12]

Caribbean

Burger King's growth into the Caribbean ocean began in 1963 when the company opened its first location in Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican locations were the first restaurants the company opened outside the continental United States.[34]
