The R211 is a planned B Division New York City Subway car type. It is first mentioned under the MTA's Capital Program Oversight Committee Meeting document and will replace the R46 fleet, an equivalent of 752 75-foot cars, and 84 growth cars, as well as potentially replacing the Staten Island Railway's fleet of R44s.

The most recent committee hearing disclosed that the master plan for procurement was approved in December of 2011, and that the purchase itself is to be made as a part of the 2015-2019 capital program budget, with the award for the technical consultant contract to be made in December of 2012. [1] In the MTA's 20 Year Capital Assesment it mentioned the possibility that the R211 will feature open gangways, which would allow passengers to seamlessly walk throughout the train.[2]

An R211 Solicitations Have Been Posted from an ad from Metro Magazine's latest issue dated the week of May 9, 2013, stating the proposal is to acquire these cars in the near future.

An interest meeting via e-mail was scheduled for no later than June 14, 2013 regarding it. This RFP will be advertised in 2014, and the contract to be awarded in 2015 when the existing R46 fleet is going to be 40 years old.
