Sony SIX is an Indian sports channel owned and operated by Multi Screen Media, which also owns Sony Entertainment Television and SET Max.[1] The channel is aimed at the youth segment.[2] It was launched on 7 April 2012 and is the 14th sports channel in India.[3]

It broadcasts cricket, professional wrestling, mixed martial arts, rugby union, basketball, football and badminton[4]

Broadcasting Rights

MSM India owns the broadcast rights in India for the Indian Premier League and the FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil. The company broadcast the 2013 PepsiCo IPL. Apart from the IPL, MSM India owns the broadcast rights in India for TNA Wrestling, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), NFL and NBA, which it intends to broadcast on SIX.[5][6][7]

Based on preparations for SIX, MSM India had also bid for the broadcast rights for Indian cricket which it lost to STAR TV.[8][9] MSM India's decision to go ahead with the launch of SIX despite losing the bid surprised observers, since competitors like Ten Sports and NEO Sports are finding it difficult to sustain themselves.[4] Apart from the IPL, the channel aims to gain viewership by broadcasting sports other than cricket.[9] Sony six also got rights to broadcast FIFA events FIFA World Cup Qualification (UEFA and CONMEBOL), 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup. The media company also bagged rights of UEFA Euro 2016 as well. [10]sonysix has signed an aggrement with tna who will show live tna impact wrestling and other ppv live in india starting january2015
