Excerpt: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the lead agency in the Department of Justice (DOJ) which has the dual mission of protecting U.S. national security and combating criminal activities. As a statutory member of the U.S. Intelligence Community, it is charged with maintaining domestic security by investigating foreign intelligence agents/officers and terrorists who pose a threat to U.S. national security. The Bureau’s criminal investigative priorities include organized crime and drug trafficking, public corruption, white collar crime, and civil rights violations. In addition, the Bureau investigates significant federal crimes including, but not limited to, kidnapping, extortion, bank robberies, child exploitation and pornography, and international child abduction...
