WPL Audio Books SCRIPT Welcome to the World Public Library. My name is Mia. WPL Open Today we are going to learn how to download audiobooks, from the World Public Library, for listening on your own personal computer To get started, you will need A personal computer or laptop An internet connection or data service And an eLibrary card for the World Public Library During this tutorial I will be using the Chrome browser, but these steps will work for all major browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Let’s begin: Using your computer, open a web browser and navigate to the World Public Library website. You can access the library by typing WorldLibrary.org into the searchbar of your browser. Next, sign into the World Public Library website by tapping the Sign In tab at the bottom of the screen. Then enter in your username Enter your password and tap the Sign In button. Now, the homepage of the World Public Library will automatically load. Before we talk about downloading audiobooks, let’s take a brief moment to investigate some of the exciting ways to discover audiobooks, and other resources in our library. First, our eBook Finder, this is a great tool for finding interesting resources quickly. Simply type in a search term and click search. We also have a collection of video tutorials, like this one, taking you step by step through many other useful features of our library. In addition you will find a variety of collections hand curated for readers of all ages Now let’s get started: If you’d like to browse for an audiobook, scroll back to the top of the page and move your mouse cursor to the books tab in the main menu. When the dropdown menu appears, click Audio eBook Collection This will take you to the Audio eBook Collection page. Feel free to scroll through this page to select an audiobook. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a specific audiobook or resource, you can search for it using the eBook finder tool. Today, I’m going to search for one of my personal favorites, “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare. The eBook finder tool will help make author title and article suggestions based on the information entered in If you see something of interest, feel free to select it, if not, continue with your search. This brings us to the search results page which includes eBooks, articles and other resources.(show left hand side) Because we are specifically searching for audiobooks, lets refine our search by checking Audio Books from the Refine Your Search bar on the left. Before checking this option, you may have noticed the Search Results heading displayed thousands of results. Now, we have significantly reduced our results to a more manageable number. If you place your mouse cursor over an audiobook cover, you can preview useful information about that book such as author, publisher, language, and the collection your book belongs to. When you find the resource you’re looking for, click the resource image or title to load the Book Details page. The book details page provides information about your book such as author, publisher, file size, and the collection your book belongs to. It also allows you to listen to your audiobook immediately online. As you can see, and hear, your audiobook is already playing, and you are able to select which chapter to listen to. The tabs here contain author title and subject information relevant to your book in the form of encyclopedia articles These articles are supplied by World Heritage Encyclopedia. We have also provided collections of additional resources related to the audio book you are currently viewing. World Public Library gives you several options to save your book for reading when not connected to the internet, including Google Drive and Dropbox, But for now, lets save this audio book directly to your computer by clicking the book’s cover. If you are using Chrome your audiobook will begin downloading immediately after clicking the book cover. If you are using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari Your computer will ask for permission to save this file. To continue with your download you need to grant your computer permission. By default, your audiobook will download as a zip file to your downloads folder. This is the default setting for most browsers unless you previously specified another location. To listen to your audiobook, you will need to extract it. Most computers can handle this task natively, and the process is very simple. First, locate the zip file containing your audiobook Right-click on the file and click Extract All Choose the location you want to extract to, and click Extract After extracting your files you can listen to your audiobook in a media player of your choice. If you have an Mp3 player, or a phone supporting Mp3 technology, you can also listen to your audiobook using those devices. Congratulations, you have successfully downloaded an audiobook to your computer. Remember, Magazines, graphic novels, eBooks and other resources are also available from the World Public Library. Thanks for watching. Until next time, this has been Mia with the World Public Library.
