National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is a water supply and sanitation company in Uganda. It is 100% owned by the Government of Uganda.


NWSC was formed in 1972 by decree, to serve the urban areas of Kampala, Entebbe and Jinja. In 1995, NWSC was re-organized under the NWSC Statute. The company was given more authority and autonomy and the mandate to operate and provide water and sewerage services in areas entrusted to it, on a sound, commercial, and viable basis.[1]

In 1988, NWSC took over water and sanitation services in Mbale, Tororo, Masaka, and Mbarara. In 1997, Kasese and Fort Portal were handed over to NWSC, followed by Kabale in 1999. As of June 2009, the following Ugandan cities and towns receive services from NWSC:

Organizational structure

NWSC is structured into seven management divisions, each headed by a senior manager. Under each divisional head, there departments, each with its own department manager.[2]

  1. Institutional Development and External Services - Headed by Chief Manager, Institutional Development and External Services
  2. Planning & Capital Development - Headed by Chief Manager, Institutional Planning and Capital Development
  3. Commercial and Customer Services Division
  4. Finance and Accounts Division - Headed by Chief Manager, Finance and Accounts
  5. Internal Audit Division - Headed by Chief Internal Auditor
  6. Management Services Division - Headed by Chief Manager, Management Services
  7. Engineering Services Division - Headed by Chief Manager, Engineering Services

Board of directors

The corporation is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors.[3]
