Vadapalani is a neighbourhood in the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. It is known for its film studios and the Vadapalani Andavar Temple, which is an important pilgrimage centre. Situated in the western part of Chennai, Vadapalani is an important bus terminus on Arcot Road.

Vadapalani is one of the busiest areas in Chennai. Vadapalani is situated at the heart of Chennai, so the area is highly populated.

Software Industry

Tata Consultancy Services in Vadapalani

HCL Technologies and MCCI Interconnect Solutions are some of the software companies located in Vadapalani. The huge Tata Consultancy Services Office has now been acquired and used by SRM University.


The Forum Vijaya Mall is located on Arcot Road opposite the Kamala Cinemas. This mall was opened in 2013.

Film Industry

The Vijaya-Vauhini Studios, Vikram Studios are in Vadapalani, whereas the Prasad Colour Lab and Prasad Studios, Efx Studios,and AVM Studio are in Saligramam. There are many actors and actresses living in Vadapalani. Not so famous film personalities working as stunt artistes, dancers, supporting actos and television artistes can be spotted regularly in Vadapalani.


Saraswati Vidyalaya, one of the oldest school established in 1964, JRK, JRM, Karthikeyan Matriculation, Vadapalani Senior Secondary School are some of the important schools in this area. Ramalinga Mission Middle School which is established in 1952, is situated in Gangappa Street is the oldest school in this area.

Many children from Vadapalani do their schooling in Ashok Nagar, Avichi Higher Secondary School located in Virugambakkam on Arcot Road, General Carippa Higher Secondary School in Saligramam, Child Fruit Matriculation School and Ramalinga Mission Middle School (Tamil Medium School) which was established in 1952 at Gangappa Street in Saligramam.

SRM has established one of its Campus at Vadapalani in 2009 . SRM University - Vadapalani Offers Faculty of engineering & technology, Faculty of Science & Humanities & Management. SRM Technologies(IT Firm) also there in SRM University campus.


Vijaya Hospital, Vijaya Health Centre, Sooriya Hospital, Rajiv Scans, Akash Institute of fertility & Research, Vasan Eyecare,Best Hospital, Vadapalani Multi-Speciality Hospital and P&G Nursing Home are prominent medical centres located in Vadapalani. SRM hospital and Fortis Malar are also coming up in the locality.

Precision diagnostics (A medall company) has a branch in Vadapalani. It is located just adjacent to Vadapalani signal and specializes in state-of-art CT / MR technology with advanced diagnostics.


In Vadapalani Kamala Cinemas and AVM Rajeshwari are well famous theaters in this area. In forum Mall Palazzo Theater. SSR Pangajam and INOX National(Fame National) are situated Saligramam and Virugambakkam which is nearby this area.
