Excerpt
Revision of the medical curriculum is a perennial subjecc of debate. The reason advanced for revision may be to relieve the medical student of some of the burden of assimilating an ever increasing body of knowledge; or, at the other extreme, to provide space in the curriculum for new subjects as they emerge from the advances of medical science; or to prevent the medical student from being so overwhelmed by the sheer number of medical specialties that he is unable to see the wood for the trees. Whatever the reason, the question of the teaching of psychiatry is likely to arise at an early stage.
