Excerpt
Excerpt: Conflicts over natural resource use and management are one of the more critical issues in developing countries. The Sahelian region in particular will increasingly be facing this issue to make sustainable development possible. Changes occurring in economic and socio-political spheres, originating from internal dynamics (rapid population growth, unwise development policies, extensive environmental degradation, corruption, etc.) as well as external ones (structural adjustment, liberalization and globalization of economy leading to growing inequity, devaluation, etc.), are indeed triggering conflicts.
