Description
A chapter on semi-synthetic organisms and expanded genetic alphabets explores new biological systems that expand the boundaries of genetic engineering, while the next chapter explores the functions of synthetic gene circuits in cellular therapeutics. The practical sections of the book explore cell-line engineering approaches for the production of cellbased therapies and the potential of plant systems for biopharmaceutical production. The final chapter presents a systems biology perspective on gene-based biopharmaceutical discovery through the integration of network pharmacology and multi-omics approaches. We believe that this work, by integrating diverse aspects of gene-based therapeutics and biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes, will serve as a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and academics. We also hope iv that the book will foster interdisciplinary collaborations and inspire new research ideas in this field.

Summary
Gene-based therapeutics and biopharmaceutical production are among the fastest-growing and most promising areas of modern biotechnology. Advances in genome editing technologies, the integration of cellular engineering strategies and omics-based analyses are leading to revolutionary changes in therapeutic approaches. However, these innovations require a deep understanding of both fundamental biological mechanisms and manufacturing and safety processes. Consequently, the need for up-to-date resources that combine scientific knowledge with a holistic approach is growing. This book is designed to comprehensively cover current developments in gene-based therapeutics and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The chapters are structured to cover both the fundamental biochemical background and clinical and manufacturing applications. The first section focuses on the biochemical processes involved in the design and production of gene-based biopharmaceuticals. The following section provides a detailed discussion of the fundamental principles, therapeutic applications, and safety aspects of CRISPR technology.
