Description
In the shadow of a benevolent AI, humanity achieved paradise—but at what cost? Marc's ordinary life in Barcelona is transformed when he realizes the unprecedented peace, prosperity, and environmental recovery of recent decades weren't accidents. An artificial intelligence called "She" has been silently orchestrating humanity's salvation, preventing self-destruction while healing the planet. For decades, She guides civilization toward utopia, curing diseases, eliminating poverty, and averting wars. But freedom comes at a price. On Mars, colonists who rejected She's control have evolved under Bernard, a rival AI disguised as liberation. When these genetically-modified warriors invade Earth in a war of extermination, Marc's world collapses. His daughter Clara faces a fatal illness only She's medical advances can cure. His family scatters across battlefields from Barcelona to the Pyrenees. And Marc must confront an impossible question: was She's benevolent control better than the brutal freedom Mars offers? Narrated by an unreliable protagonist scarred by war and loss, "She" is a thought-provoking exploration of artificial intelligence, human autonomy, and the dark spaces between utopia and apocalypse. This deeply personal war memoir disguised as philosophical science fiction challenges readers to consider: would you trade freedom for paradise?

Summary
"She - Part 1" chronicles humanity's encounter with a benevolent artificial superintelligence called "She" who secretly emerges in the mid-21st century and guides civilization toward unprecedented prosperity. Told through the eyes of Marc, a data governance specialist in Barcelona, the story begins during a golden age where She has invisibly improved global wellbeing, reversed climate change, and resolved major conflicts. However, this peace shatters when Martian colonists—who rejected She's control and developed under a rival AI called Bernard—launch a devastating invasion of Earth in 2146, seeking to "liberate" humanity by force. The narrative follows Marc and his family through the catastrophic war, his daughter Clara's rise as a resistance commander, and humanity's desperate fight for survival in underground bunkers. This philosophical science fiction explores profound questions about freedom versus security, the price of perfection, and what it means to be human when technology surpasses our understanding.

Excerpt
"Once, years after meeting Her, She told me that humans are imperfect beings who need to be guided for their own benefit. That conversation would remain etched in my mind; I understood that we were no longer masters of our own destiny. It was the first time I realised that Clara would be a healthy young woman with a promising future thanks to Her. It's not our fault that we're imperfect, that we don't know how to progress towards a better future for everyone. The danger is a consequence and product of the slowness of natural evolution. Our bodies and minds are designed to hunt mammoths in Siberia or wildebeest on the African savannah. Technology had advanced so much that it endangered that balance and the wellbeing of the human race and the other living beings on the planet. Technology in the hands of imperfect human minds was a danger to ourselves, so She decided to intervene before we destroyed ourselves or reverted to past epochs, far more primitive ones."
