General Information:
Who are your favorite authors?
One of the most influential authors is the Russian author Isaac Babel. It is his precise, short style, full of emotion without pathos. I will never challenge his mastery, but i will try to learn to come close to it for the rest of my life. Apart from him: James Joyce, Sartre, Orlando Figes, George Orwell, Pasternak, Balzac, Flaubert and all the thousand other gifted writers, who through their art try to civilize this messy place we call human society.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My wife, the sun, the sea, the sky and the heavens of literature
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working, as i can't live from my writing, loving and reading, reading, reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Well, i have to admit i use the Kindle a lot. I ordered so many printed books, there is no more space in our little flat and my wife gets a little irritated. So i try to get as many books in eBook format and the easiest way for classical and actual books is the Kindle.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Wrote a little criminal story with 11 (can't remember it's content), then came a kind of essay on time travel, but from age 14 on i mainly wrote poems
What is your writing process?
Inspirational, i grasp memories of my past, analyse books i recently read, go through my chaotic note books and just sit in front of the computer and let inspiration flow. After that i wait a couple of days, months, years and start the editing proces
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book i remember was (as for many kids in the generation i grew up) the little prince by saint-exupery. Of course, when confronted with the first drawing of the book, i guessed a hat and not an elephant in a boa, which made me doubt of my creative abilities for years.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot, classical literature, sociology, philosophy, history, poetry and so on. Personally i think even as a very small author in the literature universe for expanding your writing abilities, you need to read a lot.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It is the only way i can publish my work. There is maybe 2 Billion authors who want to write and publish their writing. So the chance of getting known is very limited, especially when you have to have a job apart, to make money for a living. So since the computer revolution in the 80-90 of the 20th century i at least have the chance on the indie market to publish. If i get read, that's another question
What are you working on next?
It is a kind of rhizomatic text, mixture of memories, sociological observations, stories on literature during the Russian revolution, philosophical aphorisms, approach to the situation in the Arab world, Immigration stories and lots more. This is a project for the next couple of years and i can't actually predict the outcome
