Life and career

Born in the UK, Benson Taylor attended film composition classes at UCLA in California. His professional career began at the age of 21, as a jingles writer for television commercials. He has written scores for television shows broadcasting worldwide, including Two and a Half Men, 30 Rock and 90210, as well as scores for Super Bowl XLIII (2009) Super Bowl XLIV (2010) Super Bowl XLV (2011) Super Bowl XLVI (2013) Super Bowl XLVII (2013).[1][3] He also writes original music for advertising campaigns, including one with Cee Lo Green for the Las Vegas Tourist Board.[4]

In July 2013, Taylor announced, via twitter, that his music will feature in the new cult US television show Breaking Amish which is aired on TLC, and also in the Netflix exclusive broadcast of Orange Is The New Black.

Taylor has also contributed to the scores of feature films for both television and theater release.[5] Taylor himself has also written music exclusively for use in movie trailers that did not appear in the films themselves, including Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Blind Side, The Expendables, Twilight Saga: New Moon and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.[3] In 2011 he co-composed the score for the West End production of the play Many Moons, and traveled to Budapest, Hungary to record orchestras performing his works.[4][6]

In 2012 Taylor founded the production music label Insidious Music, producing music for film, television, and video games. Insidious is distributed by Universal Music.[7]

Taylor is a trustee of the Bradford section of the homeless charity Emmaus UK. He is also a professional member of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA).[8]
