Usage

Project banner

The project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

General parameters

  • class – see the project's for details.
  • importance – see the project's for details.
  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention.
  • image-needed – set |image-needed=yes if the article needs pictures, otherwise remove this line.
  • map-needed – set |map-needed=yes if the article needs a map, otherwise remove this line.
  • collaboration-candidate – "yes" if the article is currently a candidate for the project's .
  • past-collaboration – week of the article was previously a Collaboration of the week, the dash-separated dates of the collaboration period; must be left blank otherwise.

  • auto – This parameter is for the use of and indicates that the article has been automatically rated:
    • |auto=length – based on the length of the article
    • |auto=inherit – because one or more other projects use this class
    • |auto=yes (or |auto=stub), in conjunction with |class=stub – as Stub-Class because it uses a
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Yu Guan, use |listas=Guan, Yu so that the talk page will show up in the G's and not the Y's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see .
It is not required if another WikiProject template on the same page has its own |listas= set.
  • small – set |small=yes to display a small version of the template aligned along the right side of the page (as opposed to at the top). This parameter does not work as expected if the banner template is enclosed in or .

Portal specific

  • portal – if the article is used in the selected article queue of the China Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
  • portal-picture – if the image is used in the selected picture queue of the China Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
  • portaldykdate – Date on which the article was displayed on the DYK section of the China portal. Format: , .
  • group-portal(1-5): Can list selected articles of up to 5 portals
  • group-portal-list(1-5): Can list selected lists of up to 5 portals
  • group-portal-picture(1-5): Can list selected pictures of up to 5 portals

Project and task force specific

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
