The Delhi–Moradabad line is a railway line connecting Delhi and Moradabad the latter in the Indian state of the Uttar Pradesh. The Gajraula-Najibabad branch line is included in this page. The line is under the administrative jurisdiction of Northern Railway.

History

The Ghaziabad-Moradabad link was established by Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway in 1900.[1]

Electrification

The Ghaziabad-Hapur-Moradabad line was taken up for electrification in 2010-11. It was majorly delayed but now its almost near completion and is expected to be open to electric locos by the end of 2015.

Loco shed

Ghaziabad electric loco shed serves the Delhi area. It housed 47 WAP-1 locos in 2008. It also has WAM-4, WAP-4, WAP-5, WAP-7 and WAG-5HA locos.[2]

Since this stretch is on verge of completion of electrification, it is still served by diesel locos from various diesel loco sheds such as Tughlakabad, Lucknow, Izzatnagar, Ludhiana, Siliguri, etc. Most common ones are WDM-2, WDM-3A, WDM3D, WDP-4/4B, etc. The day is not far when this stretch would start seeing electric locomotives only.

Passenger movement

Moradabad is the only station on this line, which is amongst the top hundred booking stations of Indian Railway.[3]But this station has not any originating Mail/express train.
