Nelli-marla is a census town and Mandal located in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh state in south India.[1]


Nellimarla is located on the banks of Champavathi River at . It has an average elevation of 190 metres (626 ft). The river is called cunning river (Telugu:donga eru) due to changing course and sudden change of water levels. It used to flood many times during the 1990s. But, with the change in climates, water is a rare feature in the river after 2000.

The only road bridge on champavati river is age old and needs repairs but administration seems to avoiding the betterment of the main road which connects the Vizianagaram/Visakhapatnam with Palakonda/Rajam/Chipurupalli and so on.

There are 2 rly bridges on the same river adjacent to road bridge. one is built by Britishers and still so strong and more better than the other latest bridge. This is the main line of Howrah (Kolkata) and Chennai (Madras) railway network.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Nellimaria had a population of 19,352. It has been upgraded into Nagar Panchayat in March 2013. According to 2011 census had a population of 26,000. Males constitute 48% of the population and females 52%. Nellimaria has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 54%. In Nellimaria, 8% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Nellimarla Mandal had a population of 73,753 in 2001. Males constitute 36,657 of the population and females 37,096. Nellimarla has an average literacy rate of 51%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 62%, and female literacy is 41%.

Nellimarla jute mill is one of the largest jute mills in Andhra Pradesh. It has Mr. Jagdish Sarda as its chairman.It is a sacking unit also known as Golden Mill sometime ago.Its sacks are of premium quality and one of the best in India. It is also one of the largest livlihood provider in these regions.

The Denkada Anicut[3] was constructed across River Champavathi during 1965-1968. The Project is located near Saripalli village, Nellimarla Mandal. The Project utilizes 0.640 TMC of the available water. The Ayacut of 5,153 Acres has been stabilised in Denkada and Bhogapuram Mandals of Vizianagaram District.

C.K.M.G.J College has been training some brilliant and hard working students. It also organizes games every year at the college and school levels.

Rajesh Kantubhukta Studied in this college.

Nellimarla is also famous for Foot Ball players.

Nellimarla is especially famous for games and sports in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. It has a play ground beside the Champavathi river.

Maharaja's Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 2003 here. "alugolu high school" from which many famous people came

Moida is a village panchayat near Nellimarla ruled by the Penumatsa Zamindar. Sri Penumatsa Sambasiva Raju the longest serving MLA is from this hamlet. His second son Dr Suryanaryana Raju is the next Zamindar of Moida.

State Bank of India has a branch in Nellimarla.

There are post offices at Nellimarla, Moida and Ramatheertham. Sri. Varahagiri Venkata Giri who is known as 4th president of India was a union leader of Nellimarla Jutemill.

nellimarla got sharp brains.. most of the youth are very competitive. mainly there are 3 livelihoods craze among the youth. well studies people compete for teachers.. that's the main reason why every street has at least 3-5 teachers from mean family grounds. who are 10th passed and having good physic are become police constables etc., other uneducated youth are depend on running auto and transportation side
